If You Hate Correction,
You're Stupid!
BBT #11
Whoever loves discipline loves knowledge, but whoever hates correction is stupid. (NIV)

If you love learning, you love the discipline that goes with it - how shortsighted to refuse correction! (MSG)

The person who loves correction loves knowledge, but anyone who hates a rebuke is stupid. (ISV)
Discipline. It's something that we don't like but it's needed.

I bet you have memories of being disciplined by your parents when you were younger. It was not fun. Or when you were in college and your professor returned your 25 page paper with red ink all over, telling you all the mistakes you made. Painful.

Now we all love knowledge. The more knowledge we can get the better. We read all the recommended business books and attend large conferences to increase our knowledge. After all "Knowledge is Power" right?

But did you know that knowledge comes with discipline?

Every time you were disciplined/corrected, you learned something. You learned how to write a better paper. You learned how to not fall down on your bicycle.

In business, it's no different. Whenever you make a mistake in business you are corrected right away. You lose thousands of dollars or social media makes fun of you for a month. Almost right away you realize "Maybe I should have done that differently." You learn the types of customers that you prefer to serve. You discover the best way to promote your business or how to improve your sales process.

The market disciplines and corrects you at every turn. It's your job to learn the lessons and acquire that knowledge.
Don't be stupid or shortsighted.

Enjoy discipline, because you know that it gives you knowledge. Accept correction as part of the process. The more you learn, the more you grow, and the more profitable you become.

Till next time,
Arthur Cundy
